As a former British expat living and working in Dubai for a decade, I understand first-hand the unique complexities and struggles of daily life in the region.
Dubai offers incredible opportunities, but it can often present very real challenges to mental well-being. British expats in Dubai often face a particular set of mental health struggles. Loneliness, despite being surrounded by people; pressure to succeed in demanding roles; relationship strain due to relocation or long-distance dynamics; burnout from long working hours and a sense of displacement or loss of self/identity.
Friends and family at home often can't relate to this unique life, instead believing that you are living the dream, making it difficult to feel that your emotional distress can be truly understood.
During my ten years living in the UAE, I experienced the unique rhythm of expat life: the fast-paced work culture, the high expectations, the cultural adjustments, the daily frustrations which often felt overwhelming and the emotional toll of being far away from family. Trying to maintain a sense of identity, connection, and purpose far from familiar support systems often feeling confusing.
These experiences are not uncommon—and they are valid.
Having navigated the challenges of expat life myself, I bring not only professional training but also lived experience to my practice. I know how important it is speak with someone who truly understands the cultural nuances, the pace of life in the Gulf, and the sometimes unspoken struggles that come with it.
Whether you're dealing with anxiety, stress, homesickness, identity shifts, career-related burnout, or relationship issues, our work together will focus on helping you feel grounded and heard.
